Wings etching

Produced in 2014, this 3″ by 8″ 2 color etching employs hard ground line etching and sugar lift, a technique of applying a syrup/sugar based liquid on the raw zinc plate and then a traditional hard ground coating is applied. When dry, warm water is passed over the plate and the water based sugar lift coating lifts off and reveals the plate producing a unique ‘open bite’ effect on the final print. The single plate is printing in red, then re-inked in black and flipped over for obverse image making and a unique effect, similar to “Stars and Feathers” etching.
